Women in rpo business - Minnie Gicheha

 1. Who is Minnie?

Minnie is an avid explorer with strong curiosity. One of the managers as well as a pod leader for one of the pods in Vizx called Titans. Which means of very great strength, Intellect and Importance. I am very proud to be associated with the TITANS!

2. What challenges have you faced in the Industry? What advice could you give a recruiter going through the same?

Challenges in the recruitment industry keep evolving but mostly It’s just trying to get more bodies working. Bumps in the road are expected, but remember, you have a team to lean on when chaos reigns. Either contracts are cancelled before starting, nurses taking up better offers or demanding more pay. Finding quality candidates is also a challenge as the shortage makes it difficult to get enough providers into each facility. The recruitment cycle can also be lengthy causing the candidates to be impatient I can say it’s a volatile industry, but it’s definitely here to stay as healthcare will always be needed.

What I can advise other recruiters going through the same, is just to manage the expectations and know how to tackle each obstacle objectively and learn from the different experiences each day.

Another way to counter the everyday challenges is having a maximum output to ensure you get to your desired recruiting goals.

The challenges will always be there, how you approach them is what determines your success rate.

  • What soft skills would you encourage recruiters to adapt to thrive in this sector?

– Arguably I would say Communication and interpersonal skills are the most important in this industry. You have to be able to transition between emails, texts, phone calls and at times meetings. Recruiting involves constant communication with people of different backgrounds and needs. Always listen and have positive energy as it’s easily infectious and transferrable. How you communicate can affect how facilities and candidates think about your agency in general.

– Another soft skill I would encourage recruiters to have, is Professionalism and a good work ethic. You represent the company! This ensures that while you are trying to build relationships with your candidates or even the clients, you show respect and assure them that they are in the right hands by choosing to do business with you. Having this skill also builds confidence with your employer and guarantees them that you will maintain a good work ethic by working under minimum supervision!

– It’s also important to be Flexible as a recruiter as all days are not the same. Successful recruiters are adaptable and know how to remain calm when things do not go as expected.

– Time management should be another important skill to have as a recruiter. Being able to plan your day in an efficient way, ensures your workload is prioritized. You should also be able to quickly adjust when unforeseen tasks pop up!

– Organized and be a relationship builder. Establish long-term relationships by providing good fits for the facility who are excited about the jobs and finish their contracts with minimal hiccups. When the facility and the nurse are happy at the end of the assignment, relationships are strengthened and most times they will always give your agency priority when they have needs.

3. What do you wish you could have done better when you started off? Any advice that you would have given yourself then?

I wish I was more organized when starting out and not all over the place. In this business, you have to prioritize and give your set tasks 100% focus before moving to the next one. Building a solid pipeline when starting off and always keeping them warm is very important. I wish I would have also known how to manage my emotions when starting out. Disappointments are always there in all businesses. When you let a negative experience take a toll on you, it ends up spoiling your day and causes you to be unproductive.

4. What advice would you give to new recruiters looking to enter the RPO Business?

Have an open mind. Recruitment is such a rewarding career if done with the right mindset and approach. You are literally your own boss. Come in with a winner’s mentality. Believe you can and you will succeed.

5. What do you love most about working in the Recruiting Business

I sometimes consider myself an Introvert but absolutely love working with people and Recruitment requires one to be a people person. The possibilities are endless and It’s satisfying knowing that I am able to facilitate a candidate getting work and also help fill needs that different facilities have.

6. What would you advise a new client looking for an RPO Based project to enhance their talent search?

I would advise them to jump right into it. It’s cost-effective in the long run and will ensure that they have the best hires since RPOs invest their time, energy and resources to source, screen and present the best candidates to your company!
