Happy International Women’s Day to all!

Happy International Women's Day to all!

A Q&A session with our VIZX International Staffing Solutions CEO and Founder, Dorika Mamboleo.

1. As a successful female CEO, what advice do you have for young professionals starting their careers?

My advice to young professionals starting their careers is to first decide what you are passionate about (what are your values?), then pursue that wholeheartedly. I value excellence & integrity, which led me to opportunities that resulted in my being the owner and leader of several multi-million dollar businesses.

There is no job too small for you to do in that field. Once you get the opportunity to work anywhere, even if it is not in your field or area of passion, work very hard and be excellent at that job. Throughout my life, I have changed what I have been interested in (engineering, medicine, investment banking, private equity investing, management consulting, and eventually, what I now love most—business creators and people builders). The only thing that has never changed is how hard I worked (valued excellence and hard work) at whatever I did. Even when cleaning toilets at Harvard University in my first year there, I ensured the toilets were squeaky clean. My supervisors were impressed with my excellent work ethic and promoted me to a better role. Even though that was not my career choice, it was just a job to pay the bills. I still gave it my best. That led to many other opportunities along the way, and I continued to develop my character and skills. Even when you’re not passionate about it, hard work is a skill honed when no one is watching. You may not be working in your passion area, but if you get a job, be excellent, you never know where that will lead. I can assure any young person that being passionate to me means working hard at whatever you have been assigned to do (even homework at school, chores at home, etc.) and not focusing on the outcome. The reward is the person that you’re becoming in the process.

2. What message would you like to share with young women who aspire to become leaders in their respective fields?

Be excellent. Be confident in yourself. Speak up. Know beyond a shadow of a doubt that the world, your country, your workplace, & your family need what you have to bring to the world. You’re uniquely and perfectly qualified to be where you are today. So shine super bright because our world needs more female voices to shine in the respective spaces they occupy. You matter. Leadership truly begins at home. It starts with leading yourself first by taking good care of yourself (your mental, spiritual, and physical health, your finances, your growth, etc.).  Take time to educate yourself about other leaders and whatever inspires you. Take time to network (if you can) and meet other equally-minded people. Surround yourself with women and men of character who have leadership potential. Get a mentor who is already doing it; ask.

3. What personal values have guided your leadership journey, and how have they impacted your decisions?

As mentioned in question 1, I have been guided by the following values that have also become my company’s values:

  • Love (leading with love)
  • Integrity
  • Joy (not letting the downs of life steal my joy—and life has lots of downs. Expect them and address them but don’t let them steal your joy)
  • Excellence (in mental & physical health)
  • Faith in God
  • Gratitude
  • Growth (commitment to continuous improvement)
4. What are the greatest strengths that you’ve leveraged to achieve success?

My greatest strengths are:

  • Persistence: I never give up on what I care about until I see success.
  • The commitment to excellence
  • Faith in myself and my purpose
  • Taking care of myself so that I can do the work
  • Dedication to higher education and continuous learning (reading voraciously)
