How I ruined Christmas – The Untold Story

How I ruined christmas

Christmas may be the greatest time of the year, and even though the season lifts practically everyone’s spirits, there are a few unfortunate mishaps out there that tend to kill the festive spirits.

Here are 5 untold tales from 5 individuals who actually managed to ruin Christmas;

1. KODJ

I have a Christmas story for you. Santa won’t like it, but you will have a good laugh. Every festive season, relatives travel to gather as a family, usually at grandpa’s home. That was the case for my family. I met with my cousins, whom I hadn’t seen for close to 10 years, We were all grown up and had a lot to catch up on. First things first, we had to slaughter a goat and roast it overnight for the party on Christmas day. My uncle did the honors of killing the ruminant mammal, and after we skinned it, he suggested we get some local brew to sip as we roasted. All of us were of drinking age and agreed to it. We went to his local’mama’ and sat on really short stools and took shots in turns. On my third shot I was sweating, but agreed to take two more. If I met a girl walking back home, I’d have fallen for her – literally. I was staggering like a baby learning to walk. Home at last and we have to roast meat. My uncle was soberer minded: he lit the fire, put on a meshed wire on top and the roast begun. Alcohol makes you crave meat, especially roasted. We had a taste of the first batch and couldn’t resist picking some from the second, third, fourth and the last batch. What was left after that was meat enough for three people. Long story short we disappeared the following morning after we got sober and people wondered how three people could eat a whole goat.

2. SCATTER B

Christmas is all about food. Where there’s food there’s love, joy and harmony. Pilau never goes wrong as a Christmas dish, a wise man once said – but that wise man has never met me. I chose to cook late so that people don’t arrive when the food is cold. Everything was ready, spices and all ingredients check. Spoiler alert, I put tea masala instead of Pilau masala (A detail I missed out is that I had a flu so I couldn’t smell nor taste anything that day) I only realized when I called my sister to taste and she spat out the food. Now it was chaos on trying to figure out what to eat at 10pm.

3. BRENDA

So it was this one Christmas eve in 2019, we were idling outside with my cousins as we had breakfast. One of my cousins proposed that we do dinner and afterwards we could go to the club. Tasks were assigned and I was to pick a hotel and make reservations. Since people had to be in their best outfits, we all went for shopping. Unfortunately, the money mobile app systems were down and we had to wait before making payments to reserving a restaurant. Later, I chose a restaurant and made payment. So when the systems were back, I switched off my phone and went to the next activity which was the spa and hair. Hours later, I shared with them the restaurant name I had chosen and they all loved it. As we drove home we did a pre-game before getting home and going for the dinner and took lots of pictures. Everybody was done by 6.30pm for the hangout. An hour later we arrived as everyone left the car heading for the reception. When we were checking the names, I was not on the reservation list. I had forgotten to make the reservation due to the earlier unstable money mobile app payment. Stranded on Christmas, my cousins stated how disappointed and embarrassed I made them look, how they would have just stayed home cooked and party at home. It was a sad, boring and wasted day. I had destroyed the Christmas Holiday for everyone.

4. MICHAEL

Early 26th December 2006. Everyone had eaten enough, well dressed, and ready to set off to our long planned trip to Lake Naivasha Game Park, as a family. Damn! I was super excited, and ran out of the house before my mum could ask for journey mercies. I got into the car, and sat at the driver’s seat. With my curious child mind, I got into ”driving the car’‘: turning the steering wheel round and round, and shifting gears left and right. Sooner than later, the gear box let out a very loud sound “bwoaaah”. I got out of the car covered in a thick black suit. Everyone rushed out of the house to find out what had transpired. I had messed up the gear box. We ended up cancelling the trip. We could neither get hold of a mechanic nor find a convenient public means of transport to our destination. Imagine the anger and bitterness my family had on me!!! Worst of days you bet!!!

5. MILKA

The 25th of Dec 2015 at exactly 6pm on a calm Saturday evening is still marked fresh in my mind. The thought of going home for Christmas had earlier been a challenge. Arriving home, I knocked thrice at the door and my mom’s voice from far assured me to get in. Everyone was happy to see me after the long semester. The running comments of my physical appearance from my mom made my heart skip a bit. That’s when I decided to unveil my deepest secret. “Mom, dad I’m pregnant”. The shame in my voice and face couldn’t let me stand still as they had quite expected a lot from me. I just walked out leaving behind tears of disappointment and betrayal from my mom. I made my family really sad on that Christmas Holiday. I accepted my situation learnt and moved on.
